Fire Ant Pest Control-Exterminator in Florida

fire ant control, fire ant extermination, fire ants

There are 2 separate types of imported fire ant colonies. They are single queen colonies and multiple queen colonies. Multiple queen colonies are prone to migrate from mound to mound. Single queen colonies are the complete opposite. They are extremely territorial, defending their home and not traveling to other mounds.
In a single acre infested with single queen colony fire ants, there are up to 7 million ants, or up to 150 mounds. Multiple queen colonies are found to have as many as 200 plus mounds per acre or an estimated 40 million ants.
• Colonies of imported red fire ants consist of the brood plus several types of adults
• Queens (there may be multiple queens per colony) are much larger than the workers and have wings
• Wingless worker females ants are sterile and have to tend to the larvae and protect the queen(s) by defending the nest from invaders
• Workers also sense when the queen(s) is endangered and will then move her
• Worker males do have wings with black bodies and smaller heads than females
• Reproductive females and males are winged

Fire Ant Types

Favorable spots for the fire ants to live are in sunny areas like meadows, lawns, parks, or fields. Fire ants are also know to infest dead logs, trees and under foundations of dwellings. Some mounds are able to reach up to 1 foot and a half depending on the soil type.
